چکیده

This paper deals with a historical overview of the activities of the French FEMTO-ST institute in the field of microrobotic manipulation and assembly. It firstly shows tools developped for fine and coarse positioning: microgrippers, 2 DoF modules and smart surfces. The paper then goes on the automation of tridimensional microassembly of objects measuring between 10 microns and 400 microns. We are especially focusing on several principles. Closed loop control based on micro-vision has been studied and applied on the fully automatic assembly of several 400 microns objects. Force control has been also analyzed and is proposed for optical Microsystems assembly. At least, open loop trajectories of 40 microns objects with a throughput of 1800 unit per hour have been achieved. Scientific and technological aspects and industrial relevance will be presented.

A Multiscale Calibration of a Photon Videomicroscope for Visual Servo Control: Application to MEMS Micromanipulation and Microassembly

For many years, the increasing development of microcomponents based products requires more and more microassembly systems to permit the assembly of micrometric parts and MEMS. These systems require different tasks such as micromanipulation, microassembly, supervision, quality inspection and also require accurate metric measurements from images. The most widely used image sensor is the photon vi...

Self-Sensing Measurement in Piezoelectric Cantilevered Actuators for Micromanipulation and Microassembly Contexts

This chapter aims to develop a self-sensing technique to measure the displacement and the force in piezoelectric microactuators dedicated to micromanipulation and microassembly contexts. In order to answer the requirements in these contexts, the developed self-sensing should perform a long duration measurement of constant signals (displacement and force) as well as a high precision. Furthermore...

Robotic micromanipulation for microassembly : modelling by sequencial function chart and achievement by multiple scale visual servoings

The paper investigates robotic assembly by focusing on the manipulation of microparts. This task is formalized through the notion of basic tasks which are organized in a logical sequence represented by a function chart and interpreted as the model of the behavior of the experimental setup. The latter includes a robotic system, a gripping system, an imaging system, and a clean environment. The i...

A Versatile and Reconfigurable Microassembly Workstation

In this paper, a versatile and reconfigurable microassembly workstation designed and realized as a research tool for investigation of the problems in microassembly and micromanipulation processes and recent developments on mechanical and control structure of the system with respect to the previous workstation are presented. These developments include: (i) addition of a manipulator system to rea...

Development of a Modular and Compliant Microassembly Platform with Integrated Force Measurement Capabilities

There are many challenges associated with microassembly that are not present in macro-assembly such as poorly understood interactions and difficulty in taking measurements at the microscale. As a result, full automation of microassembly has not yet been achieved [1]. This has caused microassembly to take longer than automated macroassembly and to become a bottleneck in many assembly processes. ...
